Q1) What was the major achievement of Raja Rammohun Roy?

Ans: 

Raja Rammohun Roy’s greatest achievement was the funding of the Brahmo Samaj. He persuaded the British government to abolish Sati, which Lord Bentick did .
For this achievement he is called ( Father of India )

Q2) Which Act was Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar instrumental in getting passed.

Ans:

Vidyasagar started a movement in favour of widow remarriage and was instrumental in the passing of the Widow Remarriage Act of 1856.

Q3) Briefly describe Swami Dayanand Sarswati’s philosophy.

Ans: 

According to Dayannad Sarsawati, the Vedas contained the essence of life and knowledge.

He quoted the Hindu scriptures to support his stand on various issues. 

- He condemned Sati, 
- supported widow remarriage 
- opposed child marriage .

He preached against caste differences and untouchability.

Ans: 

Women like Sarojini Naidu, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit and Anni Besant were some prominent women who took part in the freedom movement.

Ans: 

Dadabhai Naoroji, Jyotirao Phule and Ranade are three social reformers from Maharashtra.

Dadabhai Naoroji fought for legal rights for women so that they could inherit property.

Jyotirao Phule’s wife, Savitribai Phule, was one of the first women teacher in Indi. She opened several schools for girls in and around poona.

Ranade founded the Widow Remarriage Association and the Deccan Educational Society .

  
Q6) Describe briefly how women were ill-treated in different ways until the 18th century in India.

Ans: 

Women were treated as objects.
-      It was widely believed that women could not think for themselves.
-      They should be kept inside houses.
-      Women did not have right to inherit their father’s property.
-      Women were discouraged from attending schools and collages.
-      Girls were married at very young ages, maybe 5 or 6 years old.
-      Sati is one of the most barbaric act practiced in North India, the burning alive of a woman on the funeral of her husband.


Q7) Name three social reformrs from Bengal and their contributions to the uplife of women.


Ans: 

Raja Rammohun Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Swami Dayanand Saraswati are three social performers of Bengal.
